Immersion, Appreciation and Tribute or IMPACT began in 2008. It was the brainchild of the former Dean of the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Prof Dato’ Dr. Adnan Hussein. At that time, the main aim of IMPACT was to provide opportunity for School of Communication students from the three majors, namely journalism, persuasive communication as well as film and broadcasting to exhibit their ideas and products to the industry.
IMPACT 2017 was held on 13-15 December 2017. The chosen theme for IMPACT 2017 was ‘Revolutionising Communication’. This theme was selected by taking into consideration the advancement of technology in the globalisation era that change the way of living including communication.
IMPACT 2017 was attended by 500 communication and media students from different higher learning institutions in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. The 2017 edition attracted encouraging international participation particularly from Thailand and Indonesia.
Various activities were organised during IMPACT 2017 including forum, students’ sharing, showcase as well as short video, newspaper, magazine, video advertisement, creative packaging, communication campaign, photography, public speaking and feature writing competitions. Judges for the competitions were selected among experts and practitioners from Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. They have vast experience in the field of communication and media.
Prizes for the individual competitions were RM500 for the first place winner, RM300 for the second place and RM150 for the third place. While for the group competitions, the prizes were RM1000 for the first place winner, followed by RM500 for the second place and RM300 for the third place.
IMPACT 2017 was succesfully organised with strong support from sponsors including Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), ElHajj Halal Skincare, Tourism Malaysia, F&N, AGRO Bank, KARANGKRAF, BHEPA USM and Friends Worldwide.
