The Annual programme for School of Communication, IMPACT 2014, was successfully held at Dewan Budaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia from 23th - 25th May 2014. Various programs such as the interactive session with media personalities, hosting contests, forums and Explorace were conducted in the three-day event.
The highlight of this years IMPACT was the Professorial Talk by Professor Dr Adnan Hussein entitled ‘Dari Bab Edh-Dhara ke Perkarangan Kampung Sejagat: Kepelbagaian Dimensi Cabaran Komunikasi Masa Kini.
IMPACT 2014 also witnessed memorandum of agreements (MOU / MOA) signed between the Sschool of Communication, USM with the University Tarumanagara, Indonesia; Jinan University, China; The Association of Higher Education Communication (ASPIKOM), Indonesia; Felda Wellness Corporation (CWC) and Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas).
IMPACT 2014 also carved a history with the creation of a new collaboration between the School of Communication and ASPIKOM, Indonesia. This collaboration is the first step towards initiating the establishment of a Regional Communication Associations involving Chulalongkorn University and Rajabhat University of Thailand; Nanyang Technological University of Singapore; Miriam College of Philippines and many other local and international universities in Asian.
School of Communication 49th Convocation Ceremony
A total of 44 Communication students received their scrolls at the 49th USM Convocation Ceremony at the Dewan Tuanku Syed Putra, USM Main Campus, Penang on the 26 April 2014. Among them 13 was communication undergraduate students. Eight of them graduates in Persuasive Communication, four in Journalism and one majored in Film & Broadcasting.
Meanwhile, a total of 31 Communication postgraduate students also received their scrolls at the occasion. One was awarded a Ph.D, five for Masters in Communication (Science and Environmental Journalism), nine for Masters in Communication (Integrated Marketing Communication),six for masters in communication (Screen Studies) seven by mix mode and three by research.
Spearheading excellent Collaboration with UNTAR and ASPIKOM, Indonesia
School of Communication has received a visit by University Tarumanagara (UNTAR), Jakarta, Indonesia on 28th and 29th of April 2014. The visit consisted of the Academic delegation, headed by UNTAR Rector Prof. Ir. Roesdiman Soegiarso and accompanied by the Dean of Faculty of Communication, Dr Eko Harry Susanto, Dr. Sawidji Widoatmodjo, Drs. Widayatmoko and Dra. Suzy Azaharie. This academic visit was aimed to foster bilateral relations between UNTAR and the School of Communication, USM.
The outcome of the visit between these two parties has led to a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) which will allow the two universities to support each other activities, therefore provide benefits and opportunities for research that can be explored together. The signing ceremony of the MOA will be held in the near future between the Dean of Communication School, Assoc. Prof Jamilah Hj. Ahmad and UNTAR.
Another significant event held at School of Communication was MOA with Asosiasi Pendidikan Tinggi Komunikasi (ASPIKOM) in Indonesia. ASPIKOM consists of various Faculty and Communication Department from universities in Indonesia. ASPIKOM Secretary, Dr. Dorien Kartikawangi and Site Budi, who presented ASPIKOM on their visit on 28th of April, showed interest in academic collaboration with the School of Communication, USM due to excellent teaching showed by the academic staff of Communication School, USM. The signing ceremony of the MOA will also be held in the near future between the Dean of Communication School, Assoc. Prof Jamilah Hj Ahmad and ASPIKOM.
