School of Communication
Hi, I am Bahiyah Omar, the Dean School of Communication USM. The School of Communication is the ‘pioneer of communication studies in Malaysia since 1971’. The School was established in 1993, but communication studies was offered initially under the School of Humanities in 1971. This make USM the first university that offered communication studies in Malaysia.
Over the past 50 years, we have much to be proud of. Our ranking is one of them. We were ranked top three in media and communication studies in Malaysia, and top 200 globally by QS World University ranking. In addition, Our Master in Communication program is one of the best in Asia where we were ranked top 11 by Eduniversal ranking Best Masters.
We take pride on our alumni. Some of them have become prominent film produces, famous newscasters, reputable journalists and communication strategists. Their success is a reflection of our pursuit of academic excellence.
The School of Communication has continually developed and provided media and communication education that reflected the needs of the industry. Digitalization is key to this development. We have revised our Bachelor of Communication programme to introduce digital communication as a new area of specialization.
We are committed to make the changes to remain relevant and competitive. As the needs of industry and society continue to change, we will continue to evolve with an eye for sustainable development goals in mind.
We do not only contribute talents to the industry but also the world of academia. From our PhD program. Masters in Communication, mixed mode and masters in integrated marketing communication, we have produced a surplus of researchers and scholars in media and communication. Our challenge will be to ensure that the knowledge created at The School of Communication transforms not only academia but the world around us.
I am grateful that the School of Communication continues to offer outstanding opportunities to make a positive impact. In the coming years I believe the School of Communication will continue to be pioneer of the future.
