Local Solutions to Global Challenges: Communicating Sustainability Initiatives to Diverse Communities

ICSR 2024

The School of Communication takes pride in being the first university outside Europe to host and organize the 11th International Conference on Social Responsibility, Ethics, and Sustainable Business (ICSR).

We warmly welcome all participants, offering a unique opportunity to connect and expand academic and industry networks. This conference provides a platform for sharing knowledge with a global audience united under the overarching umbrella of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically focusing on social responsibility, ethics, and sustainable business. Serving as a crucible for scholarly dialogue and practical insights, the conference aims to bridge the gap between sustainability and the diverse local and global communities. In an era marked by global challenges, the pursuit of sustainable practices has become imperative. The theme underscores the urgent need for communication strategies that effectively engage local communities while simultaneously addressing the global sustainability challenges we face. Effective communication of sustainability initiatives requires resonance with diverse communities' cultural, social, and economic nuances, fostering engagement and collaboration in global sustainability endeavours.

We invite participants to explore, discuss, and disseminate new theoretical perspectives, innovative approaches, best practices, and case studies. Our focus is on highlighting the pivotal role of communication in sustainability within the context of diverse global communication and communities.

PUTRAJAYA: A CONFERENCE OASIS

CONFERENCE VENUE

Welcome to the vibrant and strategic destination of Putrajaya, where your conference experience extends beyond the meeting rooms. Nestled in the heart of Malaysia, Putrajaya offers a unique blend of modernity and natural beauty, providing an inspiring backdrop for your professional endeavours. Putrajaya stands out with its stunning lakeside setting, lush greenery, and contemporary urban planning. Known as the administrative capital of Malaysia, this city boasts iconic architecture, picturesque landscapes, and a tranquil ambience that fosters focus and productivity.

Putrajaya Highlights:

Architectural Marvels: As the administrative capital of Malaysia, Putrajaya showcases remarkable contemporary architecture. The cityscape is embellished with notable structures, such as the rose-coloured granite Putra Mosque, featuring a distinctive pink dome. The Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque, also known as the Iron Mosque, incorporates architectural wire mesh imported from Germany and China, mirroring its construction at prestigious locations like the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris. The 3-tiered Putra Bridge, inspired by Iranian architecture, boasts four minaret-type piers that overlook the artificial Putrajaya Lake. Additionally, the Perdana Putra complements this architectural marvel, offering conference attendees a unique fusion of business and beauty.

Lakeside Serenity: The picturesque lakeside setting of Putrajaya adds a touch of tranquillity to your conference experience. Delegates can enjoy the calming views and refreshing ambience, creating an environment conducive to focus and productivity.

Gardens and Parks: Putrajaya is renowned for its beautifully landscaped gardens and parks. A visit to the Taman Botani Putrajaya or the Millennium Monument Park provides conference participants with opportunities for leisurely strolls and networking in a relaxed setting.

Accessibility: Putrajaya's strategic location ensures easy access for conference attendees. The well-connected transportation infrastructure makes travelling to and from the venue a seamless experience.

From Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Putrajaya:

  • KLIA Express Train: This high-speed bullet train whisks participants from KLIA to Putrajaya Sentral in 28 minutes, making it the fastest and most convenient choice. Trains depart every 20 minutes, ensuring quick and consistent connections.
  • MRT Putrajaya Line & KLIA Transit: This two-train combo offers a budget-friendly alternative. Take the MRT Putrajaya Line from KLIA Transit to Putrajaya & Cyberjaya station, then switch to the KLIA Transit for a direct ride to Putrajaya. While slightly longer than the KLIA Express (around 45 minutes), it's still comfortable and efficient.
  • Taxi: Taxis are readily available at KLIA, offering a comfortable and personalized option. Expect a journey time of not more than 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
  • Grab & Other Ride-hailing Apps: Download popular apps like Grab to book convenient on-demand e-hailing services. This option offers flexibility and can be cost-effective depending on the number of passengers and traffic conditions.
