The School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), successfully concluded Phase Two of COMM@Love in Transit 2026 (COMM@LiT 2026), reaffirming the University's commitment to Value-Based Education (VBE), Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), and University Social Responsibility (USR) through meaningful community engagement.
Organised by 52 second-year students enrolled in the YBP230 Corporate Social Responsibility course under the guidance of Professor Dr Jamilah Hj Ahmad, the initiative exemplifies how academic knowledge can be translated into real-world solutions through the Service-Learning Malaysia–University for Society (SULAM-USM) approach.
The program engaged more than 80 residents through activities promoting health literacy, environmental awareness, emotional well-being and social inclusion, supporting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
COMM@LiT 2026 demonstrates the role of higher education institutions in advancing sustainable development by fostering mutually beneficial partnerships between universities and communities while preparing future communication professionals to become responsible, empathic and socially conscious leaders.
