Conference on Communication & Broadcasting in the Geo-Cybernetic Era, Bandung, Indonesia

On 11–13 November 2025, the Indonesia Broadcasting Conference (IBC) brought together more than 200 academics and broadcasting practitioners for a dynamic conference themed 'Communication & Broadcasting in the Geo-Cybernetic Era' in Bandung, Indonesia. Amid this vibrant gathering, Associate Professor Dr. Nik Norma Nik Hasan took the stage as one of the invited speakers with presentation titled 'Inclusive Climate Storytelling with Kelantanese Women in the Digital Era'. It highlighted how digitalisation can amplify community-centred climate narratives and elevate the voices of Kelantanese women through more accessible and participatory storytelling platforms. The conference was organised through a strategic collaboration with Indonesia Communication Conference (ICC) and the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI), the West Java Regional Broadcasting Commission.

OCTOBER 2025-YOGYAKARTA

International Forum on Journalistic Storytelling for Community Well-being and Sustainability

Associate Professor Dr. Nik Norma Nik Hasan recently inspired hundreds of students at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) and International Program, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Indonesia, through two captivating speaking sessions. Invited as a distinguished guest speaker, she first engaged with 100 first-year journalism students on 29 September 2025, sharing insights in her talk titled ‘Everyday Strugglers in Malaysia: The Stories of Blames and Hopes’ at FISIPOL. Her reflections on real-life narratives, resilience and Malaysian media perspectives resonated deeply with aspiring journalists. In the second session on 1 October 2025, she addressed over 300 international and senior students, as well as lecturers from the International Program, UMY, exploring ‘Climate Storytelling in the Edge of Algorithm’. The talk highlighted the intersection of technology, environment and the power of narrative in shaping public awareness. Dr. Nik Norma’s visit to Yogyakarta captivated audiences with her dynamic storytelling and strengthened academic and cultural exchange as part of ongoing efforts to activate the MoA between USM and UMY.

SEPTEMBER 2025-CYBERJAYA

international symposium on Artificial Intelligence for a Sustainable Future

Associate Professor Dr. Nik Norma Nik Hasan was invited as a keynote speaker at NexSymp2025, an international symposium on Artificial Intelligence for a Sustainable Future, held on 11 September 2025 at MMU Cyberjaya and organized by Multimedia University Press (MMU). With 120 accepted papers from global presenters, the event served as an interdisciplinary nexus for the digital age. Dr. Nik Norma delivered a keynote titled From Headlines to Algorithms: Reframing Climate Change Journalism for Informed Futures, where she argued that climate change framing is no longer solely shaped by editors and journalists but increasingly by algorithms. With her expertise in science and environmental journalism, she highlighted the profound implications of this dynamic for how the public understands climate risks, responsibility and responses to the climate crisis.

2025 Mini Series Global Outreach and Branding Conference

Associate Professor Dr. Bahiyah Omar had the honor of participating as a panel member at the 2025 Mini Series Global Outreach and Branding Conference, held from June 26 to 27, 2025, at the Shanghai Oriental Intelligent Media City, China. This prestigious international event brought together global media leaders, content creators, scholars, and industry experts to explore the transformative role of Mini series in global content dissemination. During the roundtable discussion, Bahiyah shared insights from an educational perspective, highlighting how short-form storytelling formats like Mini series can be strategically integrated into academic and media literacy frameworks to engage new generations of learners and creators.


MAY 2025-PENANG

Mercu Buana University’s International Community Programme with Indonesian Workers in Penang

As part of Mercu Buana University’s International Community Programme with Indonesian Workers in Penang, Associate Professor Dr. Mohamad Saifudin Mohamad Saleh delivered a keynote address entitled “Cyberbullying and Sustainability Communication”. The programme took place on Sunday, 4 May 2025 and brought together the Indonesian workers’ community for an engaging and meaningful exchange of knowledge. In his keynote, Dr. Saifudin examined the pressing challenge of cyberbullying in contemporary digital society and underscored the significance of sustainability communication as a means of fostering resilience, inclusivity, and responsible participation. His lecture effectively linked issues of digital well-being with the broader objectives of sustainable community development, leaving participants with valuable insights and practical perspectives.


MAY 2025-RIAU, INDONESIA

 "Communicating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Environmental Sustainability Initiatives."

Professor Dr Jamilah Hj Ahmad was invited to deliver a public lecture during Education Day at Universitas Pasir Pengaraian in Riau, Indonesia, on May 7, 2025. As the keynote speaker, she presented on the topic "Communicating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Environmental Sustainability Initiatives." Her lecture emphasises the vital role of CSR communication in raising sustainability awareness and encouraging proactive measures. This recognition highlights her expertise and significant contributions to the fields of environmental communication and sustainability. Among the audience were the Rector of Universitas Pasir Pengaraian, Professor Dr Hardianto, the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, senior administrators from UPP, lecturers, provincial government officials, and students.
